The Beauty of Recess
The apostles gathered around Jesus and reported to Him all they had done and taught. Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, He said to them, ‘Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.’ Mark 6:30-31 (NIV)
Recess used to be the most anticipated and appreciated time in our day. We would be hard pressed to find a young person (now or then) that did not relish recess, summer break, and a good nap. Nevertheless, there are still those who do not appreciate the beauty of recess. Rest is beautiful. It is refreshing to break the cycle of rushing along from project-to-project day after day. We all need and can benefit from some rest. Rest for our bodies, our minds, our souls, and our very lives.
As you know, August is the time on our church calendar when we recess our leadership meetings, bible studies, and prayer sessions. This does not mean that you are not to study, pray, and gather in community – just not under the direction of the pastor and church. In fact, I hope you will take advantage of the time to connect and fellowship with one another organically. To that end, mark your calendar for our Game Night Fellowship on Thursday, August 11th from 6:30-8:30pm. Come, bring your favorite game, and meet a new friend! Enjoy the recess!
Loving and praying for you,
Pastor Danielle
