Ready to Pray and Fast?
“When you call on me, when you come and pray to me, I’ll listen. “When you come looking for me, you’ll find me. “Yes, when you get serious about finding me and want it more than anything else, I’ll make sure you won’t be disappointed.” God’s Decree. Jeremiah 29:12-14a (MSG)
Prayer and fasting are ways that we seek Christ. The benefit that comes from these disciplines is that we gain clarity about who God is and about what God is saying and doing in our lives and in our world. As we launch into 2023, we will again set aside time, space, and energy to seek the Lord for 21 days. Will our commitment and sacrifice be worth it?? YES!
The prophet Jeremiah assures us of this with the promises that Yahweh gave to the Children of Israel when they were in exile. When we pray, seek, and open ourselves up to the Lord, God will listen. God will be found. God will answer us in ways greater than we can imagine. If we pray with our whole hearts open and ready to receive, we will see God. So, before we even begin our fast, we already know that we will be successful. You can’t beat those odds!
This time is opened to everyone in our community and beyond. I encourage you to prayerfully invite your family, friends, and loved ones to join us in this important time of consecration. Our preaching and teaching focus for 2023 is Togetherness. This focus will guide our time in corporate prayer as well.
Week 1 (Together with Jesus) – establishing and strengthening our connection and commitment to Christ. Reevaluating the true role that our faith plays in our lives daily.
Week 2 (Together with Self) – refocusing and recommitting ourselves to selfcare, self-love, and self-reflection, which will lead to growth, change, renewal, and transformation.
Week 3 (Together with Others) – stretching beyond our comfort levels and old habits to engage with the right people. Seeking clarity about how to build and maintain healthy relationships and communities.
I am asking that you will commit to join with us January 2-22 for this time of prayer and fasting, and please invite others! Moreover, we will gather on our prayer conference call line every Monday-Friday of our fast from 7-7:15am to hear a word of inspiration and pray together (Call 605.313.4162, access code 701912#). Each morning, we will have a one-word prompt to guide us. That word will correspond to the week’s prayer focus. This will be an impactful and life-changing experience for us all!
