Learning Love
And consider the example that Jesus, the Anointed One, has set before us. Let his mindset become your motivation. Philippians 2:5 (TPT)
Love is very much a learned behavior. We may all come wired and equipped to give different types of love (See the sermons from the past two Sundays). Nevertheless, if we will truly be able to love and BE loved, we will need to learn some lessons. We will need to embrace the love of Christ and, as in all things, follow His example.
The Apostle Paul writes in the Book of Philippians that Jesus:
…emptied himself of his outward glory by reducing himself to the form of a lowly servant. He became human! He humbled himself and became vulnerable, choosing to be revealed as a man and was obedient. He was a perfect example, even in his death—a criminal’s death by crucifixion! Philippians 2:7-8 TPT
Jesus put Himself in a place of weakness, so that He could model perfect love to us. From this we should glean that before we can fully love, we too will need to adjust our posture. We may need to go from a position of strength to one of humble submission. We may need to move from being the one who always gives to learning to receive. And, from speaking to simply listening. We all want and need a steady stream of love in our lives. God has so much to teach us about how to get and receive the love we so desperately want. Are you willing to learn love and make the required life adjustments?
Loving and praying for you,
Pastor Danielle
